Free For All: YouTube App from YouTube, WinMo and S60! Native at last!

At last there’s a way to use YouTube on WinMo and Symbian S60 devices, and although it’s data hungry, and there is a warning at installation, to save your hip pocket, if you don’t have an “all you can eat” data plan, don’t even go here!

youtube, on winmo from youtube

The speed and ease of use, what I would describe as “intuitive”, makes this an application for all WinMo devices, and you have to applaud Google for actually coming up with this. Although, I have to admit that any application that increases hits for them is value adding and lining Google’s pockets, this is another welcome, free app from Google, that again allows you to stick to just a Windows Mobile device whilst on the move.

Bigger than the Kindle2, Amazon Kindle App 4 iPhone!

img-3833-thumb News of the moment, I knew there was a use for Twitter, all of a sudden about an hour ago, people started tweeting that there was a new app in the iTunes store. Apparently Amazon have released an application for the iPhone that let’s you sync your Kindle and iPhone, remembering what you where doing on the Kindle and making that accessible on the iPhone.

Let’s face it the Kindle and Kindle 2 are portable, but are not going to be convenient in every situation where you might want a quick read, so with this application and an iPhone/iPod Touch you can seamlessly read on on a much more portable piece of hardware.

What’s more it’s a free application that you can Download from the iTunes store [US Only at the moment]. The implications for the eBook industry are also incredible, considering the uptake of the iPhone over the last couple of years, you might not want a Kindle, but if you have an iPhone? You’ll have the same access to Kindle/amazon eBooks with this application.

I’m thinking this is a pretty business savvy move from Amazon, the giant just rolls on :)

Free For All: Google’s Windows Mobile App

It’s here, a Google app for Windows Mobile, Android and the iPhone’s poor cousin, so it seems. it’s new you have to agree to some huge contract that you’re not even going to read, and if you’re in Australia you don’t even exist at this point. Just say you’re in the states and avoid the confrontation!

What though do you actually get for your lack of bucks, a configurable desktop/today screen plug in.

Free For All: SIM Manager V1.4

sim-manager This looks really good for the price, and why would I bother with it, well I’ve got a TYTN II/HTC Tilt on the way. Not that I’m going to retire my Axims, but I’m finally going to be able to stop relying on cheap prepaid phones, and rid my pockets of a device. One less thing too carry is always going to enhance my mobile experience.

Now most of us wouldn’t think about the SIM cards in our phones, but they are a Data storage device as well a connection manager. I use a 3g/HSDPA modem all of the time now, but when the  modem is connected to the PC it shows up as a USB storage device, go figure.

Considering that, wouldn’t you want a way to manage the data stored on your SIM card, in a straight forward intuitive way. Well it looks like SIM Manager is the application to let you do that with ease.

If you’ve a Windows Mobile phone you’ll want to check this out!

An Apple Christmas Gift, For Devs and Reviewers!

Here at JAMM, we have a bunch of gadget enthusiasts, all working together to bring you the latest and greatest from around the mobile tech world. The Credit though, should really go to all of the Software developers, accessory and device manufacturers that freely supply us with review samples, so that we can get the knowledge out to you, Our valued readers.

appleTheFullByte

One thing that has been a thorn in the side of not only enthusiast sites like ours, but to software developers as well, has been the inability to easily get iPhone applications out to reviewers.

Case in point a plea from Marc over on the iliumsoft blog back in November

If there is one thing that is missing from the AppStore, it’s a “Gift This App” button. Don’t get me wrong. Despite a few hiccups early on, overall we’re quite happy with the whole AppStore experience. It’s just that we’d love a way to buy promo copies of our software for people. And then there are reviewers. We know about Ad Hoc, but splitting 100 Ad Hoc licenses between in-house devices, beta testers, and reviewers just isn’t enough. We’ll pay full price for our software – we just want it to be free for the other person.

Well finally the Apple’s not half eaten, you know the analogy, “is the glass half empty, or half full”. Everything up until now that the team have reviewed, they have paid for if it wasn’t a free app, and I remember a little bit of advice that went around early on in the appstore days, “all of those 99 cents will soon add up”.

Well Christmas has come early on this front, as Apple have

Apple has finally started allowing developers to issue free promotional copies of their iPhone applications. Once an application has been accepted to the App Store by Apple, developers can issue up to 50 promotional codes. The codes allow the recipient to download a full copy of the application for free. Presently, these codes can only be used in the U.S. iTunes Stores by using the “Redeem” link in the App Store.

This is probably one of the best moves, and money savers, for reviewers all through out blogdom, and thanks to Apple for the full experience, without the credit card stress!

Expect to see a lot more iPhone stuff on the site, as this new policy disseminates through the developer community!

App for iPhone… Sonic Lighter!

Ok I find this fascinating, not knowing if it’s useful for anything, but it does demonstrate some advanced features of the iPhone, communicating with other iPhone’s in a unique way. Especially the ability to blow on the iPhone’s touch screen and get a response from the app. The app comes from Smule, and it only costs $1, other than amusement, I don’t know what it does but it obviously qualifies for the app store.
