Motorola, does a Chunky Soup, Mobile Phone!

soupMoto I’m a bit oblivious to the rugged mobile phone market, and the only analogy I can think of to illustrate the difference between the consumer mobile phone, and the rugged outdoor industrial phone is soup. You know, you get the refined, blended, processed soup that your not sure exactly what’s in it, and the chunky version that has no secrets. Chunky soup, has large bits that you can identify, and like or dislike as is your want. Although it reveals all, it is substantial and comforting, reassuring if you will.

That which a rugged mobile phone attempts to be, no frills, but it is a device you can rely upon!

Motorola have released a pair of qwerty based, rugged, windows mobile devices this week that meet the bill, a familiar form factor from Moto, reminiscent of their earlier Q devices, with maybe a Humvee take on a handset!

VITO Release Winterface 1.3

 Winterface1

VITO Technology today have released an update for their popular shell application for Windows Mobile Professional devices, Winterface. I know corny name, but this app really enhances the UI of Windows Mobile, and puts access to all of your settings, task management and programs at your finger tips on the today screen.

The main changes are: some UI tweaks, and the ability to go full screen and hide all traces of Windows Mobile on the today screen. The ability to add favourites as shortcuts from MIE and Opera right on the today screen, and various bug fixes.

Have a look at Doug’s review of the initial release of Winterface to get a better overview of how this application works!

Winterface is available for $19.95 Here

Press Release: Glyphs UI for Windows Mobile

Every Windows Mobile user seems to lament the native Windows Mobile user interface. I somehow think this was a ploy by Microsoft to spurn a burgeoning windows mobile software industry. Of course though, the search for the perfect today screen set up, I know I’ve really had to look high and low for a adequate solution. I’ve mentioned, myriad times about my preferred set up, and I always look for new solutions to try. So I came across a new solution from Teksoft that I wanted to share with you.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but this is an update to a former release called SkyBox from Teksoft, which sort of conflicts naming convention wise with what we are expecting Microsoft to announce next week. Anyway crack the link for more info
