Dell, in it’s all encompassing wisdom has decided to market NetBooks in a new fashion, directly at women. Apparently the female of the species is only now becoming aware of devices such as the NetBook, and Dell wants to take advantage of that new found fact! Hence their new website, Della…
My first impression, was Dell are marketing fashion devices, accessories, that are visually pleasing, and compliment personal style. Most of us personalise our devices, in many ways, cases, covers screen protectors, software etc; and I have to say delving into the site I did like a lot of the graphical customisation for devices. Fashion is important to all, effective mobile computing is also as important. Is it though, demeaning to market the same devices, differently to women, than you do to men?

With any mobile device, the supporting technologies that are not directly attributed to the OS related to your device, develop at a different rate to your Os. Bluetooth, no matter what device or OS you are using, has become an integral part of all mobile, and for that matter, static devices you may use.
In what is breaking news today we are seeing the release of BT 3.0, it’s actually hitting the market, whether we will see the benefits soon is another question.
The fact is we all want a more efficient, faster way to interface with our mobile devices, and BT 3.0 seems to offer that! Integration of the new tech may take a while, but you have to admit, in the simplest of functions you would appreciate a higher transfer speed. Syncing any device sans cable, at a higher speed has got to be on most people’s wish list!

The other day I told you about some attempted transparency from Microsoft, over at the Windows Mobile Facebook page. I was, to say the least, sceptical at the time, but it seems Microsoft have finally deemed to grace fans at FaceBook with some answers! Answers though that are innocuous, and well, affected by a generous slathering of PR spin, sanitised and no real answers at all. For example:
Nikita
When will…
…Silverlight be finally on WM?
…there be WM6.7? [With SL and SL in Widgets]
…Widgets get IE8 WebSlices?
…century old base OS controls be shiny like XP>Vista?
Windows Mobile
While we are not dicussing future versions of the product beyond what we announced at Mobile World Congress, I can say we are committed to bringing Silverlight to Windows Mobile in the future.

One thing that is self evident of late in the Windows Mobile community is the excitement about forthcoming updates to the OS. Although there is a huge amount of insecurity about whether a lot of those users will even be able to access the upgrade. There’s a device specification lower/lowest limit already defined for Windows Mobile 6.5, and Microsoft have already handballed the responsibility to the device manufacturers. That’s right in a sly move, Microsoft actually left it up to the OEM’s, mainly HTC, to alleviate the update drought!
So what is actually going to happen?
Who knows really, but recently over at FaceBook, as an off shoot of the Windows Mobile Fanpage, there’s been a stirring, that’s delivered plenty of questions, and few if any answers!
So what does all this mean, check out the thread on the FB page and see if you agree with the other WinMo users over there
Aaron Woodman, Director for Consumer Experiences for Windows Mobile, will be available the week of March 23rd to take questions on anything related to your consumer experiences with Windows phones. Post your questions below, and then check in a week and see the information we’ve accumulated.
Aaron may not be able to answer every question—and he won’t be giving away any deep trade secrets—but he has a wealth of fascinating knowledge to share on our favorite mobile phones.
Here’s the link to the thread!
I am just amazed at the amount of negatives that are surrounding Microsoft’s latest initiative for Windows Mobile. We’ve heard that the marketplace would exorbitantly charge developers for inclusions in the app store after their initial five free programs, and that additional charges would be incurred for even minor updates to programs after this limit was reached. So after the initial furore from the Windows Mobile community, it seems Microsoft “Got Smart” and rethought the pricing policy for developers, and thought they had pacified anyone that felt warm and fuzzy over that news.
BUT…
another hiccough, well more of a dry wretch, has hit the carpet, and it’s not pretty and it’s definitely gonna leave a stain. This is a decision that is going to alienate a lot of, well most of, well all current WinMo owners,
“No marketplace for you”, I know that sounds like the soup nazi from Seinfeld, it seems though that’s the road less travelled, and less travelled

When you think about it, most mobile users don’t think about what’s under the hood of their device. Let me amend that phone. More than likely 90% of mobile users, no matter what the OS, under utilise their devices, and probably have no idea what sort of powerhouse they have in the palm [well Palm devices excluded, we are waiting for the Pre] of their hands. Me, I’m always looking at specifications, mainly Processor speed and Ram.
So thinking about the evolution of the mobile phone, the truly detached from a vehicle mobile phone, [not a car phone], we have gone from hernia inducing, over the shoulder, communicators, trending down to phones that, you would lose if you blinked, and finally found a form factor that is a compromise with a simple human condition that goes by the name of “usability”.
With what seems to be the best form factor for a mobile device comes the miniaturisation and enlargement of the power we expect to be included in a mobile device now.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, is really the next step as far as I can see, handheld devices with a 1Ghz processor, this looks like the future of mobile computing, and gaming, and well , whack this in a WinMo phone and I’ll be happy!

Okay, this is a concept that blew me away today, and the more I think about it the more I want to share it. Imagine now, go to your gadget happy place, chant a bit, a full computing experience that fits in your pocket, and it’s not a phone. Not a Mid, but a computing module contained in a case that resembles/is the equivalent of a power unit for any one of your other devices.
The incredible shrinking computer is about to reach a lower limit in size, with a new computer that’s contained entirely within a wall-wart. Any smaller than this, and the computer would disappear inside the electrical outlet.
I can’t even take this in in any sort of coherent manner, but marvell seem to have a way for you to get rid of your desktop PC forever, and your laptop and netbook. A unit like this would definitely be a mobile boon, but the peripherals would be a pain to carry!
