Seven Deadly Sins!

image

I think a setup like this would definitely qualify as sloth, and it also inspires lust and envy. Even maybe a bit of gluttony thrown in, if you don’t have to get out of bed to get your web fix. Is this one of those new fangled Web 2.0 innovations that I’ve been hearing about? Although it lacks an obvious cup holder, and a convenient place for your nachos and corn chips, does any one else see anything wrong with this picture? Well it’s just wrong, even though a set up like this is designed to facilitate ease of use for the infirm, I can really see this being abused, and a potential health hazard for many. The “ErgoPod” as it’s dubbed, is

ideal for standing, seated or supine work positions. Programmers, CAD workers, graphic designers or special needs individuals now have the ideal station for hours at the computer.

With the increase of tech related maladies, like texters thumb, are we looking at a whole new problem, “gamers bedsores”? I know it’s not exactly mobile, but if you’re going to spring the $4000, for this puppy, You could probably afford a mobile home (Winnebago) to install it in!

Have a look at the original product page, there’s lot’s of great pictures, and if any of you would like to chip in to get me one of these units, I’m a special needs individual, (read lazy), comment on this thread, and I’ll email you, you know I need this!

The end of another week!

WooHoo, another week gone, and a big one it was as well! We had the Pasadena Tabernacle Youth Chorus in for dinner tonight, they are on a whirlwind tour having just arrived from a congress in New Zealand. They made me come out so they could thank me for dinner, I hate that! They sang a couple of songs for us, beautiful!

NoahRussellIn even bigger news if you haven’t heard already, Michael Russell has become an Uncle, He emailed me today and it sounds like He’s chuffed!

There are more photos at this link if you want to have a look, Little Noah Benjamin, is very cute!

Well, things are going well, What’s New at 61:4

Well we managed to survive our first week back, and it was great to catch up with a few people we hadn’t seen for a while cause of the break. Good news, Katie.S found a place to live in Preston for her and the girls (Carly and Curtis) to live. It’s funny how things work out just in the nick of time. It was a great surprise, Wednesday to see Carly and Scott, they both are helping out until this years Order members arrive and get up to speed. I hope that’s a bit quicker than the 2007 crew. Scottie of course is participating in the Order again this year, and is free loading over at the training college already. PJ is well, PJ. I had some cryptic sms messages from him on Monday,  indicating some sort of injury  they may impede his capability to work.  Guess what, He and Hannah  were skateboarding and of course they both had a big stack.  PJ’s a bit banged up but he’s  OK.  Now this is one for every one to keep in mind, Pommie is back in rehab and is doing well for now,  and I’m hoping if this continues, I can get him back in the kitchen later in the year. Anyway, just some bits and pieces for now!

Now this is Mobile Technology!

Cheesy!
This is a really useful idea, kudos to the person that thought of it and all, but, well, they’ve put the cheese into “cheesy” with their marketing and website, that actually gained it an honourable mention. As we all do our best work in a relaxed environment, obviously in our smoking jackets, pipes perched precariously in the corner of our mouths, we hate it when excessive sunlight affects our productivity. There is a solution, and when you visit you can rock out to “I can see clearly now the rain has gone”.

The LapDome is a well thought out idea, it’s a laptop carry case that converts into a shade cover for your laptop enabling you to work in full sunlight, with no degradation of your screens brightness, or reflection. I know it’s a bit hokey, but over at UberGizmo they think this is geek chic. [Ahem] A true fashionista I’m not, but it wasn’t the lapdome that really attracted me to this it was their website, and you should all go and have a look for your viewing pleasure.

This laptop computer carry case transforms into a sheltered, darkened work environment. It offers privacy, security, and protection from the elements, but most of all, computer screen visibility outdoors in the daytime.

iPod Junkies, Here’s Your Fix!

OK, no sarcasm intended here, this is a great option for all of my fellow iPod owners. This is a great solution for all of us that have more than one i device. You can get a two berth or a four berth iPod dock from Griffin, that will allow you to charge your iPhone, Touch, iPod and Nano all at the same time. I don’t even think this is obsessive, I mean I’ve only got three iPods at the moment. It’s a nice option to have!

In a multi-iPod/iPhone household like mine, this device looks like it could be a godsend for tidying up the rats’ nest of cables on our kitchen countertop. Here’s a single charging dock that can recharge up to four iPods or iPhones simultaneously.

This is a really great response, to what has become a serious problem for lot’s of people, and means you don’t have to line up behind the kids to get your morning commute charge for your iPod

Now This Is Mobile Technology!

Ok I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, how is it really defined? Now we wear pedometers to record how many steps we take in a day, we wear watches that monitor our heart rates, and our shoes connect to our iPods and do something else equally inane. Well, I can actually see this device addressing some safety issues, and adding a cool dimension to skateboarding at night.

These LED loaded skateboards, while having a cool rating that tops the meter, actually address a safety issue that has never been looked at before. Really cool, and adding headlights and taillights might go a long way to stemming the increase of human road kill!

How to build Your perfect today screen?

pc_capture7

The today screen is your window to your device, neigh your window to the world depending on how you use your device. How it looks, and how it performs is an issue that has been discussed for ages. Customising your today screen is one of the first real mobile device experiences, that new users have, whether it be a dedicated Pocket PC or a converged device, and all of us want to maximise that experience.

When you acquire a new Windows Mobile device, and complete the initial configuration, you come up with this standard today screen, that, is lacking but functional! By default the today screen has a heap of windows plug-ins, that most serious users seem to avoid. Opting for what are considered more powerful third party programs to manage their today screen experiences. So what constitutes the “Perfect Today Screen”? Is it having everything you need in one place, so it’s easily accessible, or is it a great image and lots of slick icons, to get ooh’s and ah’s from people?

Let’s face it, if you’re looking at the today screen your probably not getting too much done, we only really become productive once we actually open and application and start working with it. I’ve seen some some incredibly beautiful screen layouts, and I realise that quite a few people put a huge amount of time and effort, even learning specialist scripting languages so they can even better customise their today screens. An incredible effort for those so inclined, but really what is the point, There’s only a limited amount of useful information that you can display on your devices screen at any one time. Yet if you look at the today screen posted, how much Ram and power is consumed to maintain that painting. Other than the new headline notification and weather data, it’s not really supplying much information. I have to start tapping for more functionality, Ram use goes up and the device is even more compromised, as far as starting and running applications. With that today screen, look at the numbers, 7.2 Mb of ram left. is your today screen compromising your device usage? That’s not a real lot out of 64 Mb and  I have found that the device starts quicker and has to be soft reset less with a more simplified today setup.
pc_capture2 pc_capture3
pc_capture4Theirs pros and cons to have everything on your device accessible from the today screen, and one of the cons is clutter, It’s like having too many icons on any desktop, things become hard to find after a while. I for one prefer something much more minimalist, with direct access to the main things I use every day. with as few taps as possible. Mail, time, calendar, PIM, internet search and of course my RSS feeds. A really simple layout that serves my needs all with stock standard plug-ins.

No matter how you do it, you’ll find everyone has an opinion on what the perfect today screen should be like, and with some new interface options like Home UI, and the recent look we’ve had at what Windows Mobile 7 is shaping up to be you’ll have plenty of more options as well.

So how do you build your perfect today screen?

Don’t You Just Hate Random Thoughts !

I was minding my own business this morning and was quite relaxed, cleaning out the trailer fridge. When it suddenly dawned on me, holidays over! The Life Center reopens this Wednesday, 16/1/07, we are back into it with a vengeance! I’m wondering how many of you guys are starting something new this week as well? Oh well, better make a start on the walk in freezer.

As If We Don’t Already Pay Enough?

image

Ok this came up yesterday, over at MoDaCo, and I didn’t think much about it but now there are some very interesting updates to the original post, that I will say, really takes the cake.

Mark this as from the ‘oh my goodness I really hope they are joking’ department, but reports are coming in thick and fast of users being prompted with ’30 day trial’ message upon signing into Windows Live Messenger.

For me this adds insult to injury, we pay through the teeth for Microsoft products, that are half baked, and dependant on user feedback, to be brought to completion. I’m still running XP for precisely this reason, and when you think that Microsoft has only recently released Service pack 3 for XP which encapsulates all of the past fixes up to this date, it’s obvious that they sell flawed products, knowingly.

Does Microsoft really think that people will pay for their “late to the game” online applications, or compete with Google’s free offering. Well, Microsoft has responded to the original post.
